times are changing

2009 definitely feels a bit different. With the economy in utter shambles and a rampage of layoff's tearing the gaming industry to shreds not just here in the states but well over in the land of the rising sun as well; it will be interesting to see how the quality of games will be affected because of this.

will games be far less frequent but higher quality to entice the public to continue purchasing games? or will game quality plummet faster than Midway being delisted from the NYSE soon after filing for bankruptcy. which might i add, i'm growing sick and tired of browsing articles regarding Midway's downfall and someone posting up a "FINISH HIM!" or "FATALITY!" comment. tho on the flipside, i would have welcomed someone quoting something from NBA Jam: "BOOMSHAKALAKA!!!" tho i fail to see how that relates to Midway crash and burning.

anyhow, back to the subject at hand, how are games going to look this year? with many high-profile games about to go gold this year, i half expect no real new innovative IP's to be announced this year. rather, just a rehash of more sequels and just a lot of 2008, but slightly better (if at all).

with that said, what games am i looking forward to this year? i'm shooting to make a top 10, but i wouldn't be surprised if i can't even fill up 10 slots...

1. Killzone 2

2. Resident Evil 5

3. God of War 3

4. Final Fantasy XIII

5. Halo 3 ODST

6. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

as expected, no new IP's i'm looking forward to and i couldn't fill the 10 slots. there were of course honorable mentions, uncharted 2 or bioshock 2 to name a few, but having never played either of those games the first time around, i don't find msyelf excited that they are receiving sequels this year.

Now you're playing with POWER

so here's an interesting debate that was sparked earlier today. to kickoff this blog about video games / movies / cartoons / anything and everything that we're all interested in... i figured i'd start it off with something video game related.

over EVERY single console ever created throughout our timeline, if you were to say that each console was alotted a 100% potential... which console was able to excercise it's most potential by a game in it's library? basically... the highest utilized console by a single game... which console is it?

in a conversation that johnny and i had... we were on the fence of it being either the gamecube or the dreamcast... both sides had our fair share of what we claimed to be the highest potential... but in my personal opinion, the gamecube hit it's highest potential with a tossup between Resident Evil 4 or the Metroid Prime series... either of those two games were a surprise to me when that little cube crunched out those wonderful games given its supposed "weaker" processing power in comparison to PS2 and XBOX... hell, it even gives games TODAY a good run for their money...

which is why I am still able to play Metroid Prime 1... released back in the holidays of 2002... and still be amazed...

last week i was simply playing Halo 3 for a bit only to switch over to Metroid Prime 1 and the only thing that took some getting used to was the different control scheme... but aesthetically, my eyes were not shunned away by the degraded graphics... in fact... i even forgot what Halo3 looked like after playing just a few short moments of Metroid Prime....

and if i can get over my fear of playing zombie games.... RE4 will definitely be played by me next...

long live video games!!!!!!

so... with that said... agree? or disagree?!?!
